Digital X-Rays
The digital radiography system replaces the traditional film pack with a special sensor. The sensor detects the radiation, transmits it to a computer, which displays the image on a monitor. The sensors themselves are much more sensitive to radiation therefore the exposure time is significantly reduced. There is up to 80% reduction in radiation over conventional
film x-rays.
As well, image contrasting can change the resolution, orientation and size to facilitate enhanced diagnostics.

Since the images are magnified onto a monitor, it's easier for the dentist to highlight areas of concern and for the patient to actually see and understand what is being examined.
Mercury Free Dentistry
For the over 25 years our office has been completely mercury-free. When replacing missing tooth structure there are many alternatives to the traditional silver/mercury filling. Our particular favourite type of filling for replacing large areas of missing tooth structure is the lab processed white filling (inlay/onlay).
The lab processed filling has a micro fibre reinforcement and on the second appointment it is then bonded and cemented to the tooth to restore the tooth to its original shape and strength. It has equal wear to enamel and these teeth look beautiful.

Ozone Therapy
The Amazing Application of Ozone in Dentistry
We now have the technology Healozone available in office. This machine is a sophisticated piece of equipment that emits ozone at a concentration of 2100 ppm and at a rate of 615 cc/min. Ozone destroys bacteria, viruses and fungus to prevent loss of tooth structure. This sterilizes and desensitizes our preparations. It helps to minimize the possibility of a root canal when the decay is close to the nerve of the tooth. As a result there will be fewer teeth requiring crowns.
Ozone application is also very helpful when applied to root surfaces of teeth that have begun to de-mineralize. Often the surface can harden after an ozone application and the use of Healozone home care products. The remineralization process can take up to ten weeks, at which time the surface is examined. If the surface is hard, then there is no need for a filling or restoration that would have otherwise been necessary! This is exciting, to be able to offer non-invasive, minimal dentistry.
Holistic medical practitioners are also very excited that we are using ozone to help sterilize the canals of teeth undergoing root canal therapy. Ozone can also be applied to cold sores and apthous ulcers to enhance healing, and stop the blistering of cold sores..
Cost of application ranges from $50.00 - $70.00, which will be submitted to your insurance company; however, not all insurances cover this procedure.
We believe this is an extremely beneficial therapy which, for the first time in dentistry, allows teeth to re-mineralize or heal themselves; thus, preventing discomfort, and decreasing the incidence of root canal procedures.
Various Material Options
Research has given us the ability to work with various filling materials. Our office has been mercury free since 1983. Alternatives include lab-processed composite restorations, porcelains, gold or regular composite fillings.
Different materials may be suggested dependent on your
bite, eating habits and size of existing fillings. Maintenance is important and if we need to repair, we can often bond to existing fillings, preventing the need to touch original tooth.
Laser Dentistry

Soft Tissue
and Tooth Laser
|
We have been using lasers since 1992! In certain situations, our soft tissue laser removes excess gum tissue to prevent gum disease, as well as releasing tongue ties or other restrictive muscle attachments. It also recontours gummy smiles and enhances cosmetics.
The best part of the laser is that it is painless, with minimum discomfort and no bleeding. There is no "packing" or restrictions to your diet. It truly is a tool of the future in dentistry. If you get mouth sores, our lasers also alleviate the spread of herpes lesions, and eliminate pain from apthous ulcers.
Worn edges of front teeth can be reinforced with the tooth-cutting laser. This slows down the wear and eliminates rough edges.
Notice edges of teeth are reinforced to prevent breakage of their enamel plate, creating much more youthful teeth.
Our newest addition is the laser which is able to remove decay. Instead, of the noise and vibration of the conventional drill we now use the quiet, touchless laser to remove old white fillings and new decay. Most of the times there is not even a need for an anesthetic because it is so painless. This laser however, does have its limitations and cannot be used to remove old amalgam fillings.
